For clients

Working with SAFETEE.What to know before your first enquiry.

Process, regions, qualifications and commercial terms for HSE manager provision and safety consulting.

What does SAFETEE do?

SAFETEE is an HSE service provider (Health, Safety, Environment) headquartered in Bochum, Germany. The company provides HSE managers for large industrial projects – in particular wind energy, grid expansion and plant construction – and advises companies through safety consulting: occupational safety, fire protection, environmental protection and health protection. The portfolio also includes Behaviour Based Safety, contractor management, advice on operator liability, supervision under DGUV Regulation 2, safety coordination on construction sites and expert statements. SAFETEE was founded in 2013, employs more than 50 people and has supported over 3,000 projects.

Which industries and projects does SAFETEE work for?

SAFETEE works primarily for wind energy (onshore and offshore – construction, service and repowering), utilities and transmission system operators, petrochemicals, and industrial and plant construction. Typical assignments are large construction sites with many trades and contractors, where a permanently present HSE manager coordinates safety on site. Clients range from globally leading manufacturers and operators to mid-sized companies that want to secure individual projects or their entire occupational safety organisation.

How does working with SAFETEE work?

Working with SAFETEE starts with a non-binding enquiry, followed by an initial call, a quotation and the project start. In the initial call we clarify project scope, location, duration, qualification requirements and your internal standards (e.g. HSE plan, reporting formats, project language). On that basis you receive a quotation with a clearly defined scope of services. After the order is placed, we align the HSE manager with your project management and prepare the assignment. A dedicated contact at SAFETEE accompanies the project for its entire duration.

How quickly can a SAFETEE HSE manager be on our site?

SAFETEE can usually provide HSE managers at short notice, because the company works with a permanent team of employed HSE managers at five locations in Germany. How fast an assignment starts depends on the location, the required qualifications (e.g. GWO training, SCC, language) and current utilisation. Tell us your preferred start date in your enquiry – we will give you a firm answer on what is possible.

What does a SAFETEE HSE manager cost?

SAFETEE's HSE manager provision is billed on a time basis, usually as an hourly or daily rate plus travel and accommodation costs as agreed. The rate depends on qualification level, assignment duration, location and scope of responsibility. For recurring assignments we offer framework agreements with fixed terms. Safety consulting services such as audits, culture diagnostics or training are quoted as packages with a defined scope. After the initial call you receive a transparent quotation with no hidden items.

What is the difference between HSE manager provision and safety consulting at SAFETEE?

HSE manager provision is an operational service: a SAFETEE HSE manager works on site in your project for a defined period and takes over the day-to-day safety work – site inspections, toolbox talks, contractor coordination, documentation, incident investigation. Safety consulting is an advisory service with a defined deliverable: for example an HSE culture diagnostic, a Behaviour Based Safety programme, a compliance audit, an incident investigation or an expert statement. Many clients combine both – analysis first, then implementation in the project.

Where does SAFETEE operate?

SAFETEE operates throughout Germany and across Europe. Offices are located in Bochum (headquarters), Hamburg, Berlin, Magdeburg and Mainz. Projects have been supported in Germany, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Austria, Switzerland, the Benelux countries and Eastern Europe. SAFETEE HSE managers work where the project is – on wind farms, substations, transmission line sites and industrial plants – not in an office.

What qualifications do SAFETEE HSE managers have?

SAFETEE HSE managers are permanently employed professionals with a technical or scientific background (engineer, master craftsman, technician or degree) and training as a Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit (German certified occupational safety specialist) or an equivalent qualification. Depending on the project, industry-specific certificates are added, such as GWO training for wind energy, SCC qualifications for petrochemicals or SiGeKo qualification under RAB 30. Staff are continuously trained through the SAFETEE Academy. Good English is standard, as many projects are staffed internationally.

Does SAFETEE work on English-speaking and international projects?

Yes. SAFETEE regularly works for international manufacturers and operators where English is the project language. SAFETEE HSE managers deliver toolbox talks, reports, risk assessments and coordination with subcontractors in German and English. Client-specific reporting formats and timesheets in English are adopted as well. Assignments outside Germany have been carried out in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux and Eastern Europe.

Which certifications does SAFETEE hold?

SAFETEE is certified to EN ISO 9001 (quality management) and SCC (Safety Certificate Contractors). SCC certification is frequently a prerequisite for working as a contractor on plants in petrochemicals, plant construction and the energy industry. Both certificates are audited regularly. On request we provide the current certificates for your supplier evaluation.

How are services and working hours documented and invoiced?

SAFETEE documents assignments via timesheets countersigned by the client and invoices monthly. We work with our clients' formats: your own timesheet templates, purchase order numbers, framework agreement numbers or supplier portals such as SAP Ariba are all supported. On the technical side, HSE managers report continuously – through inspection records, weekly and monthly reports, key figures (LTIF, TRIR, near misses) and incident investigations – so you always know the safety status of your project.

Can SAFETEE provide several HSE managers at once, or cover absences?

Yes. SAFETEE staffs projects that need several HSE managers at the same time or in shift patterns, and organises cover for holidays or sickness from its own team. For large projects SAFETEE assigns a team lead who acts as the central contact for resource planning, quality assurance and coordination with your project management. This keeps the safety work continuous and consistently documented even when personnel change.

Which digital tools does SAFETEE use?

SAFETEE uses its own digital tools for structured HSE processes: Appraisals, Audit, Ready-To-Go-Check, HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment), Index and Performance Monitor. They support inspections, audits, risk assessments and the evaluation of safety key figures. All results are documented transparently for the client. On request, HSE managers also work in the client's systems. Under the heading “KI Power”, SAFETEE is additionally developing AI-supported analyses for occupational safety.

Does SAFETEE provide the safety and health coordinator (SiGeKo) under the German Construction Site Ordinance?

Yes. SAFETEE provides safety and health coordinators (SiGeKo) under Section 3 of the German Construction Site Ordinance (Baustellenverordnung, BaustellV) for the planning and execution phases. This includes the advance notice to the authority, the safety and health protection plan (SiGe-Plan), the file for later works, and the coordination of employers on site. Qualification meets the requirements of RAB 30. The SiGeKo role is often combined with the HSE manager role in the project.

How do I contact SAFETEE for an enquiry or a quotation?

You can reach SAFETEE by phone on +49 234 58885-0, by e-mail at info@safetee.eu or via the contact form. Headquarters are at Wasserstraße 221, 44799 Bochum, Germany; further offices are in Hamburg, Berlin, Magdeburg and Mainz. For a quotation, the project location, expected period and type of project are enough to start – we clarify everything else in the initial call.

A team lead is your fixed contact for technical and organisational questions. The aim is for you to feel confident in your first project – technically, in dealing with the client and in SAFETEE's processes.

Does SAFETEE offer remote work?

That depends on the role. HSE managers work where the project is – safety work on site cannot be done remotely, although documentation and reporting can be handled flexibly. For roles at head office and in consulting, hybrid models are available by arrangement depending on the tasks. Ask specifically in the interview – we will tell you what is possible in your position.

Can I work for SAFETEE as a freelancer?

Yes. Alongside its permanently employed HSE managers, SAFETEE works with self-employed HSE professionals during peak periods. If you are available as a freelancer with safety specialist qualification, site experience and ideally industry certificates (e.g. GWO, SCC), send your documents with your availability and region to j.nieswandt@safetee.eu. We will add you to our pool and get in touch as soon as a suitable project comes up.

Does SAFETEE offer working student positions or internships?

Yes. SAFETEE offers working student positions, for example in e-learning support for the SAFETEE Academy or in project assistance. Students of technical, safety-related or business subjects gain early insight into HSE management on major projects. Current vacancies are listed on the careers page; for internships and theses, a speculative application is worthwhile.

Who is my contact for applications at SAFETEE?

Your contact for all questions about applications and careers at SAFETEE is Jörn Nieswandt, People & Culture Partner, at j.nieswandt@safetee.eu. You are welcome to get in touch informally beforehand if you want to know whether your profile fits or which projects are coming up.

How is SAFETEE rated as an employer?

SAFETEE has repeatedly been recognised as a Top Company on kununu, Germany's leading employer review platform. Reviews highlight the collegial atmosphere, personal responsibility in projects, training through the SAFETEE Academy and short paths to management. The company is growing and aims to be the leading brand for occupational safety in Europe by 2030 – with a team that lives the values of responsibility, openness, competence, reliability and foresight.

Occupational safety explained.Terms, duties and key figures.

Concise answers on HSE management, SiGeKo, DGUV Regulation 2, risk assessment, BBS, LMRA and more – with a focus on German and international project practice.

What is HSE management?

HSE management is the systematic management of health protection (Health), occupational safety (Safety) and environmental protection (Environment) in a company or project. It covers risk assessments, safety rules and permits to work, briefings, inspections, contractor coordination, the investigation of accidents and near misses, and key figures such as LTIF or TRIR. On large construction sites an HSE manager performs these tasks on site and is the contact for project management, trades and authorities. The goal is to prevent accidents and to fulfil legal duties verifiably.

What is the difference between an HSE manager, a Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit (SiFa) and a SiGeKo?

The three roles differ in legal basis and task. The Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit (SiFa, certified occupational safety specialist) is, under the German Occupational Safety Act (ASiG) and DGUV Regulation 2, the employer's advisory body for its own company. The safety and health coordinator (SiGeKo) is appointed by the client under the Construction Site Ordinance and coordinates the employers on a site. The HSE manager is a project- or company-related management function that operationally manages safety, health and environmental protection – usually with SiFa qualification and, in practice, often combined with the SiGeKo task.

When is a SiGeKo mandatory on a construction site in Germany?

A safety and health coordinator (SiGeKo) is mandatory under Section 3 of the German Construction Site Ordinance (BaustellV) as soon as employees of several employers work on a construction site. In addition, the client must send an advance notice to the authority if the works last longer than 30 working days and more than 20 employees work simultaneously, or if the volume exceeds 500 person-days. A safety and health protection plan (SiGe-Plan) is required if an advance notice is needed or if particularly hazardous works under Annex II BaustellV are carried out – for example fall heights above 7 metres.

What does DGUV Regulation 2 govern?

DGUV Regulation 2 “Company physicians and occupational safety specialists” specifies the German Occupational Safety Act (ASiG) and defines the extent to which companies must be supported by safety specialists and company physicians. For companies with more than ten employees, standard support applies, consisting of basic support (fixed hours per employee according to support group) and company-specific support derived from the actual hazards. Small companies may alternatively use the entrepreneur model. SAFETEE provides the safety engineering support as an external Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit.

What is a risk assessment (Gefährdungsbeurteilung) and who has to prepare it?

The risk assessment (Gefährdungsbeurteilung) is the central instrument of German occupational safety law: the employer systematically identifies the hazards of each activity, evaluates the risk and defines protective measures. Under Section 5 of the German Occupational Health and Safety Act (ArbSchG) every employer is obliged to do this, regardless of company size; under Section 6 ArbSchG it must be documented. It must be updated when equipment, procedures or working conditions change, or after accidents. On construction sites it is supplemented by task-specific assessments and daily tools such as the LMRA.

What is Behaviour Based Safety (BBS)?

Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) is a behaviour-oriented approach to occupational safety that systematically observes, feeds back and reinforces safe behaviour. It is based on the insight that a large share of accidents is attributable to behaviour and decisions, not to technology alone. BBS programmes work with defined observation criteria, structured safety conversations between managers and employees, positive feedback and the evaluation of observation data. SAFETEE implements BBS as a stand-alone programme or as a module of HSE culture development.

What is contractor management and why does it matter?

Contractor management (Fremdfirmenmanagement) is the systematic management of safety and health protection when external companies work on your premises or project. Under Section 8 of the German Occupational Health and Safety Act and Section 6 of DGUV Regulation 1, employers must coordinate when working together and avoid endangering each other. This covers the selection and qualification check of contractors, briefing before work starts, permits to work, coordination of interfaces and supervision on site. Good contractor management reduces the accident risk and the client's liability as operator.

What does operator responsibility (Betreiberverantwortung) mean?

Operator responsibility describes the duty of the entrepreneur to operate plants, buildings and workplaces so that employees and third parties are not endangered. It derives from the German Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Industrial Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV), DGUV Regulation 1 and civil and criminal law (duty to maintain safety, organisational fault). Under Section 13 ArbSchG and Section 13 DGUV Regulation 1, duties can be delegated in writing to reliable, competent persons – the duty of selection, supervision and organisation remains with the entrepreneur. SAFETEE advises on legally sound delegation and organisation.

What is an LMRA (Last Minute Risk Analysis)?

An LMRA (Last Minute Risk Analysis) is a short, structured risk check that employees carry out themselves immediately before starting work at the workplace. Using a few questions, they check whether hazards exist that the risk assessment does not cover: changed conditions, weather, access, adjacent work, missing protective measures. If a question cannot be answered safely, work is not started and the supervisor is involved. The LMRA is standard in wind energy, petrochemicals and plant construction. SAFETEE uses its own digital LMRA tool for this purpose.

What is HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment)?

HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment) is the systematic identification of hazards and the evaluation of the resulting risk by probability of occurrence and severity of harm – usually in a risk matrix. The evaluation leads to prioritised measures following the hierarchy of controls: eliminate, then technical, organisational and personal protective measures (STOP principle). HIRA is the international counterpart of the German Gefährdungsbeurteilung and is frequently required as a format in international projects. SAFETEE uses its own HIRA tool for preparation and documentation.

What is SCC certification?

SCC (Safety Certificate Contractors) is a certification scheme for contractors working on the plants of clients in chemicals, petrochemicals, energy and industry. It assesses the service provider's occupational safety, health and environmental management – from risk assessment and briefings to accident statistics. For personnel service providers the variant SCP applies. Many operators require SCC as a condition for awarding contracts. SAFETEE is SCC-certified.

How often must employees receive safety briefings in Germany?

Under Section 12 of the German Occupational Health and Safety Act, employees must be briefed before taking up work, when their tasks change, when new equipment or technologies are introduced, and at regular intervals. Section 4 of DGUV Regulation 1 specifies: at least once a year, and the briefing must be documented. On construction sites, daily or weekly toolbox talks – short, practical safety conversations about the upcoming work – supplement the formal briefing. SAFETEE HSE managers deliver and document both.

What is special about occupational safety in wind energy?

Occupational safety in wind energy is characterised by work at height, crane and heavy-lift operations, electrical hazards, confined spaces (tower, hub) and remote sites with long rescue routes. Standard measures are therefore personal fall protection equipment, rescue concepts with practised rescue from height, weather limits for lifting and work at height, and GWO training (Global Wind Organisation) as the industry-wide minimum qualification. Offshore adds sea survival, transfer and helicopter safety. SAFETEE has supported the construction, service and repowering of wind farms for many years.

What is an HSE plan or safety and health protection plan?

An HSE plan is the project-specific safety concept for a construction site or undertaking. It describes organisation and responsibilities, the relevant hazards and protective measures, rules for access, permits to work and PPE, the emergency and rescue concept, briefing and inspection rhythms, and reporting. The safety and health protection plan (SiGe-Plan) under the German Construction Site Ordinance is the legally required counterpart, prepared and updated by the SiGeKo on behalf of the client. In international projects an HSE plan according to the client's specifications is usually required.

What do the key figures LTIF and TRIR mean?

LTIF (Lost Time Injury Frequency) and TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate) are the most common key figures for accident frequency. LTIF counts injuries with lost time per one million hours worked. TRIR counts all recordable injuries – including those without lost days – usually per 200,000 hours worked, following the US OSHA standard. Both are lagging indicators; they are complemented by leading indicators such as inspections, near-miss reports and briefing rates. SAFETEE reports both types in its project reporting.

How is AI used in occupational safety?

Artificial intelligence supports occupational safety above all in evaluating large volumes of data: inspection records, near-miss reports and audit results can be analysed automatically for patterns and trends, documents such as risk assessments can be created and updated faster, and briefings can be made adaptive. Responsibility for evaluation and measures remains with people. Under the heading “KI Power”, SAFETEE develops its own applications for these tasks and uses AI only with clear rules on data protection and data classification.
