Behaviour Based Safety IN QUARRIES
A NEW WAY OF THINKING SAFETY
Due to the high risk of danger, quarries are generally well organized in terms of occupational safety. However, accidents still occur from time to time, especially in established companies that have been working successfully and routinely for years - as was the case for the customer who hired us for this project.

The cause of the accident rate was identified as a misperception of the safety culture by the employees. Although the company's safety culture had developed significantly over time,
many employees were still afraid of an old safety concept that focused primarily on finding and reprimanding the guilty party in the event of an accident.

This misconception could be remedied by targeted measures. In particular, employees were involved in this process. They were encouraged to expand their personal safety awareness and expertise and thus actively contribute as safety culture multipliers.
DISCOVERING EMPLOYEE POTENTIAL
Using a psychological questionnaire, misperceptions in the existing safety concept were uncovered. These could be remedied by involving employees directly in the development of a new sense of safety. Particularly committed employees were recruited as safety culture multipliers in order to communicate safety as a positive concept within the workforce.
