This project was contracted by the company UPM Biochemicals GmbH. UPM Kymmene is a Finnish company that originally came from the field of paper and pulp production and has developed into a broad-based bioeconomy company in recent years. The focus is primarily on sustainable, renewable products in the traditional areas of the company, but also in biomolecular applications and renewable energies. The aim is to offer innovative solutions for a future without fossil raw materials. UPM is building a globally unique biorefinery for the production of renewable biochemicals at the Leuna site. For this purpose, wood, a renewable raw material from sustainably managed forests, is processed into biochemicals that can then be used as raw materials for the production of environmentally friendly plastics.

Our role in this project is to provide support to the in-house HSEQ department by providing safety consulting. The assignment of a health and safety coordinator in accordance with construction site regulations adds value to our holistic safety concept.

This allows our client access to the full range of our services. For example, we have installed our “SAFETEE Performance Monitoring” system, which displays safety performance indicators and monitors safety on the construction site in real time.

We have also been able to celebrate the first baptism of fire of our newly founded “Fire Protection” department by training the customer team as fire protection assistants.

We will also be offering individualized fire safety training for various areas.

We also deal with the subject of explosion protection documents and provide support with our safety engineering expertise.

While the project will take approximately 2 years, up to 1500 employees from various subcontractors will be working on the project construction site. Four safety consultants from inside our team at SAFETEE GmbH will be on-site during this period. The client's employees will be able to access the expertise of the SAFETEE back office and SAFETEE personnel on site at any time. Our Ready-To-Go-Check and SAFETEE on-site management constantly monitor the legal compliance of the construction site and establish a harmonized understanding of safety.

Our consultants are supported on site in their day-to-day work by the results from SAFETEE Performance Monitoring and will initiate targeted improvements.

SAFETEE will also provide assistance with the creation of safety documentation for the connected labs, the technical center and quality assurance, which is also being set up for this pioneering project.
